The Creation of Pat Patriot

New England is home to some of the best sports mascots and eye-catching logos around. You have Wally for the Red Sox, Blades for the Bruins and of course Pat Patriot. They have always kept the fans especially young fans entertained during the game by migrating around the ballpark, stadium and arena greeting fellow fans.
In New England, particularly in Boston there is a lot of history dating back to the American Revolution and the Revolutionary War. Some of those key moments in history have now spilled over into sports like the Patriots legendary mascot and former team logo Pat Patriot. For those of you who may not know, Pat Patriot is depicted as a Revolutionary War soldier.

Pat Patriot was designed to be more than just a team mascot as the name became symbolic as well. This was the team’s original logo before it was retired and the “Flying Elvis” took over. A Boston Globe cartoonist named Phil Bissell is the one behind the creation of the famous logo. After being founded as the Boston Patriots at the time, the team was looking for a new way to be represented. According to the HuffPost “A Globe editor asked Bissell to illustrate a potential logo and in 45 minutes, Bissell had Pat Patriot” and just like that Pat Patriot was born and the rest is history.
Fans during the time obviously relished the old Patriots logo and hate that it was changed. However, there has been talk that it may make a comeback in the near future.
